Pastor Carter's Thoughts

Why Grow?

by Pastor Dale Carter on 09/26/16

Luke 4:18-19

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Why do pastors put a number of people they want in their church? I believe that the majority of pastors today don’t know why they want to run 200, 250, 300 or even upward to a thousand people. What would they do different if they went from 15 to 500 people. First thing is that it would make them famous and spoke highly of among their peers and within the origination. People would point finger at them in a positive way and exalt them as an example of growth.

But my question is, “Why do I want to pastor 300-350 people, what would I do different?”  Most of you have heard me say several times over the last 7 years, I have a dream of pastoring 350 people at Harvest Fellowship. Almost every time I said that, there was a very dim voice that ask the question, why. I never had a real concrete answer.

Most pastors that maintain a large number drive a better car and live in a better house than those that run only fifteen to twenty. Well I knew that wasn’t my reason nor was it the purpose of my life or the purpose that God had when He called men to pastor. The Lord placed some in the church as pastors and other offices. A pastor is like an overseer, one who attends another’s needs.

When God places a man to pastor, God looks deeper into that person’s heart and sees the heart of a Shepard. Look at:

John 21:15-17; 15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep

John 10:11-14.  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Although God places pastors within the church for to many times pastor become hireling and therefore when the going gets tough they can move from church to church. They want to have a larger church but they really don’t know why.

There has always been a seed planted in my heart that involved those men and women that are controlled drugs and alcohol and other addictions. I didn’t know how to do what needed to be done to reach them. I never was weak enough or dysfunctional enough to allow some one deceived me into trying something I knew very little about except that it was hard to communicate with those I knew that use such substances.

And then came Scarlett Lynn Brooks-Hopkins. Scarlett first came to Harvest Fellowship about 4 years ago. It didn’t take me long for me to catalogue her as a loose nut attached to a crooked bolt. At that stage of my growth in ministry I didn’t have the foresight to see what was in her. I judged the fruit because I didn’t know how to look for the seed. I had some roads to travel and some pits and pot hole to go on my journey to becoming a pastor before I’d ever be fit to be what God had called me to be. Like me Scarlett had to travel some of the same roads.

Scarlett soon faded and her memories became dim but never forgotten. Then one day there came that call from a most unsuspected place that would lead to some eye opening events and some spiritual knowledge that would answer the topic of the title of this message. “Why Grow”  And it seems, just for me.

If anyone came to Harvest Fellowship that had a drug related back ground I thought, this is it and I’d invest my love and energy in them only to be disappointed and sometimes broken hearted. But this time there was a different spirit, a longing, a sense of belonging that would help me and Harvest Fellowship to a new dimension. A dimension that would consummate, Why Grow.

Over the past few weeks little by little God has shown me the WHY. Why we must become larger, draw more people accumulate more revenue so we can fulfill our scripture for today and our foundation scripture for Harvest Fellowship PCG until the Day of The Lord…….”to preach deliverance to the captive…..” How can one be made free if they are held captive to a broken heart, in darkness because of blindness and continually bruised by their past.

So now together with our church family Scarlett is going to establish a program that defies our government but Satan himself. From the things that she has learned from the offbeat roads, pits and pot holes there is complete deliverance for those that are weak and hanging by a then rope. It’s called “DADS” Drugs, Alcohol Deliverance Service. Instead of relying on a “higher power” people that attend this service will learn that, all, and everything they need is in Jesus. This is not and will not be a program controlled by government regulations. The foundation of this program was settled before the foundation of the earth and is for “Whoso ever will”

Some of the chains that can and will be broken because we will look at what the true cause of each addiction is. What does the Bible say about addictions? What does the Bible say about:

Some of the chains that can and will be broken because we will look at what the true cause of each addiction is. What does the Bible say about addictions? What does the Bible say about:

Alcohol, Anger, Depression, Drugs, Food, Fornication, Gambling, Lust

And others some of which I never considered as being addictive.

“ONE STEP TO FREEDOM. There is a difference between Freedom and Victory. Victory means you won that battle, Freedom means that you have been delivered from those chains and bondage. Thought you were one in bondage, Jesus paid the ransom and now you are free.

Why Grow? Well most of the time growth means a health environment. A healthy environment means most things will grow as God plans them to. The Lord said, “Go Ye Out”

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Rom 10:13-15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

We must grow to the point that Scarlett can be a full time drug minister.

If we are going to keep young people then we’ll need a full time Youth Pastor.

It will take a congregation of 3-350 people to continually support a church with that out-reach. Now I know why we must grow and why the number “350” has stuck in my mind for most of my ministry. It was a seed that God planted that is about to germinate and grow a plant that will produce a harvest that will cause a fellowship of people that the world threw aside. Maybe that is why we named our church Harvest Fellowship Pentecostal Church of God. It’s that Pentecostal power that binds us together with unwavering Love and a never ending, heart saturating, super-natural desire to fulfill Luke 4'18-19.

If My People Will Humble and Pray

by Pastor Dale Carter on 09/08/16

If My People Will Humble and Pray:
As our communities throughout this great land and our nation as a whole are slipping further away for what this nation was founded upon, we find it harder and harder to rally people around the standard of God, and become submissive to the Word of God. It's almost like pulling hen's teeth trying to get folks to attend church, pull together, bind together and fight the devil as an army of the King, Jesus Christ.
Community projects have become the most sought after solution or remedy to solve the problem of division and apostasy. I'm certainly not against helping in every way to show the love of God to our citizens that need help. But the Word of God does not say or even suggests that we clean up the streets of our town or rake leaves or other chores for a needy neighbor to restore that which has been lost or should I say, allowed to slip away.
Though I believe that we all should be a help in every way that we can, that's not what the Bible directs us, that are children of God to do. The Bible plainly states:
2 Chron 7:14. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Allow me to invite every person, regardless of denomination, race, color or creed to join us here at Harvest Fellowship Church in Lonoke, Arkansas in concerted prayer as the above scripture states, on every Monday Night at 6PM. This is the real remedy, (Prescription from God) that will start us to a healthier and Godlier community and nation.

Get Off The Sidelines

by Pastor Dale Carter on 08/25/16

Get Off the Sideline.

Have you ever wondered why Jesus chose the caliber or quality of men that He anointed with super-natural power to be His disciples and preachers and sent them into the world to carry on the ministry of Jesus? My observation is that Jesus knew that we’d be coming on the scene and He did away with every excuse that we could come up with 2000 years ago. Peter denied Christ to His back, Thomas denied Him to His face and all the others ran away in time of trouble. None of them believed Him which they proved by going to the empty tomb, including His own mother.

The reason Jesus gave these men the greatest commission a human being could receive is that Jesus saw what He could make of them. Perhaps even after all the doubt and fear in their hearts, all the faithless events and statements, Christ knew that one day every one of them would surrender their anemic abilities and courage completely to Him. When that occurred then Christ, through the power of the Holy Ghost made Super-natural anointed channels within them which would explode into a River of Living Waters and would have an eternal effect on every person touched by it.

So here we are today in the same position and, having to make primarily the same decisions as the disciples.  The disciples had the verbal words of Jesus. We have an advantage over them. We have to written Word and that is what Jesus used to defeat Satan three times in the wilderness. If there ever was a wilderness today, we are in the middle of it. We have a Rainbow, a sign of a covenant between the earth, man and God that the earth would never be destroyed by a flood again and that all living things would not have to die.

When Christ came out of that tomb, He established a new covenant with the world and all men that He had spoken of even prior to His death. But it took His resurrection to consummate this covenant.  (Covenant) John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (Covenant) John 6:40. “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”  (Covenant) Rom 10:13. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

There is great prosperity and benefit of this written covenant. On many occasion men hear the words that are spoken but some words or meanings quickly escape their minds even as they repeat it. This written covenant will never change, it is the same for all men of all nations, creeds and origins around the world. It will never be re-written. It is the same yesterday, today and forever. This Word “was” Jesus, “is” Jesus, and will “always” be Jesus.

What is My Part or Purpose in Gods Army?

Well, your part or purpose in God’s great Army is not to sit on the sideline and watch and hear the victorious army pass by. It’s been said that there are three kind of people. 1. “Those that watch things happen,” 2. “Those that make things happen,” and 3. “Those that wonder what happen.”  Now God the Father and God the Son sent us God the Holy Ghost therefore providing us with all the tools, weapons and power we would ever need to attack, conquer and over-come all the weapons, lies, deceits and wiles of the Devil. Satan was defeated at Calvary when the Precious Blood of Jesus ran down that “Old Rigged Cross” and flowed upon the earth beneath it. When that Blood touch the earth which had been Satan kingdom, it destroyed all the power Satan had, has and ever will have. He became a defeated foe subject to the Word of God not only to Jesus but unto every Blood bought, redeemed by the Blood Child of God. Jesus took back what Satan had stolen and now he has no dominion over the children of the Most High God.

So now if you believe what is written, get up off the side line, quick watching and wondering what is happening and make things happen. By Faith step out into the ranks of God’s Army. One very important thing you will need, that is the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, “as the spirit gives the utterance”. If you haven’t received the baptism yet, maybe you are trying to receive your way and not God’s way. As you pray for the infilling, what are you looking for? Don’t look for or seek anything but Jesus. Jesus is the baptizer, not an imagination in your mind. Your Baptism of the Holy Ghost is in the mind of Jesus. You won’t find it anywhere else It’s in the mind of Jesus so seek Jesus. Lift Him up, worship Him, praise Him and surrender your mind and tongue to Him.  It is by the Spirit that we receive power to do the works of God. Now if you truly believe and want to be a vital part of God Army then by Faith surrender your complete “Will” to God. Receive what God has for you. How do you know what God has for you? “For it is Written.”

Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Now as you step out and join the ranks of God’s Victorious Army, you will need the same desire, belief, determination, persistence and faith of the woman with the issue of blood, (Matt. 9:20) and the ruler that while knowing that his daughter was now dead ask Jesus to come and lay His hands on her  and she shall live. (Matt 9:18) (Covenant) They (You) shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. (Mark 16:18). (Acts 8:17) The disciples laid hands on the believer and they received the Holy Ghost.

So now with that in mind look at your hands as we have done many times before and say from your heart, mind and spirit, “These are the hands that will do the works of God, and Father by faith, as life my hands up to You, Lord Jesus, holding nothing from You I surrender my complete, and my total will and all that I have unto You, and by Faith I lift up my hands to You that they become anointed hands, capable of doing the works of God.

We asked the question, what is my part and purpose in God’s Victorious Army? Your part is to get off the side line and join the ranks. Your purpose is to do the works of God whenever, where ever and whatever. When will these things happen? They are happening right now as by Faith you take your position in this platoon of God’s Army. As you march to the tune of “Onward Christian Soldiers Marching as to War With the Cross of Jesus Going on Before. Marching to the same tune is very important. If we bind together, pull together and then march together we will add more and more of God’s created children to the Kingdom of God.

Raise the Standard

by Pastor Dale Carter on 08/22/16

I served in the Marine Crops as a young man. When I was discharged I was a very different person than when I went in. Our nation and the values of our society would be far better off and different to the good if every person had to spend at least two years in the Marines when they graduated from high school.
In the Maries there is a Standard. It's a flag that designates the Marine Crops from the other branches of our military. It also defines and separates each Division, each battalion, all the way down to each platoon of the Marines. A marine or serviceman can determine where he belongs by finding the standard when it is lifted up.
In each platoon there is a Standard Bearer. That's the person that carries the standard that represents a particular platoon. There are strict requirements for the person that carries the standard. To make it short, he must be clean, spit shined, creased and sharper than any of the rest. The standard and the standard bearer are an icon for all to focus on for a visible focus point that make us feel like, "that's where I belong." It's a place to rally around.
God has a Standard, and a Standard Bearer. His Standard will draw all men unto Him.
Isa 59:19 When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. KJV.  When it seem like the wiles of Satan are becoming more powerful every day, look for the Standard. Satan hates the Standard of God. Truth, Righteousness, Holiness, Faith, Hope, Satan has 'No Weapon" that can proper against a child of God that lives by God's Standard.
Let's bind together and pull together and raise God's Standard in our homes our   businesses, in our community and most of all in our churches. I heard on radio today that standard meant a barrier to keep things out. But God raises His Standard that we can rally together and fight and win this war  with Satan.

Raise Your Self-Image

by Pastor Dale Carter on 08/15/16

"Raise Your Self-Image
Image. What is image? One of several definitions found in the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary ascribes image as "a person strikingly like another person" So could it be that when a person that is worked up, mad, and is out for vengeances, dramatically, with much emotions brings you into their game. That's an evil ungodly game on the part of the person spewing venom. Next step is the person listening believes the scenario. Then the worst step of all is that the person to which the drama is being unfolded forms the same conclusion and passes judgement and seeks vengeances themselves. What happens? The person listening forms the same image as the accuser.
How do you raise your "Self Image?" Inform that person, with love and compassion that you will help them pray about this situation and invite them to consult a higher power. Assure them that you will go with them to that higher source, such as the pastor. In doing this, you will raise your self-image, adding to the value of yourself. Not only what value you put on yourself will improve but the image that your friends and family will be raised.
If you are led by the other person then you assume their image. God made us in His image, wouldn't it be much more beneficial to everyone concerned if we reflected His image.
If the person will not seek help and guidance then rest assuredly that that person only wants to cause division.
Just my thoughts this early Monday Morning.

The Fat and Death of Arsenic

by Pastor Dale Carter on 08/12/16

Is There Arsenic In The Church?

One of the largest chicken producers in the world told me that there is arsenic in chicken feed. A person would think that arsenic being a highly toxic poison would kill the chicken. The individual said that the right amount of arsenic enhanced the growth of the chicken. It, along with other ingredients, cause the chicken to produce meat. In past times a four pound chicken was considered an ideal size to be marketed but now it takes an eight pounder. The arsenic speeds up the growth process, producing a bird twice the size in a lot less time. Problem is, the quick production of the bird’s meat is so fast that the bones do not strengthen at the same rate and therefore the weak bone cannot hold the added weight so it breaks, namely the legs. There are a lot of broken chicken legs in super-markets today and they are not caused by the slaughter house as I once thought.

I wonder, if the chicken is not harvested and the feed is continued will the bird die of its feed. I’m almost sure that arsenic leaves a residue and as the feed is continued the arsenic level grows and eventually will kill the chicken. The chicken loves what it is being fed. If you go to a broiler chicken house you will find that the feed trough is never empty so the chicken can enjoy eating all it can consume not realizing that what is so good today will kill it tomorrow.

Referring to the question, “Is there arsenic in the church”, my observational opinion is a diffident and solid “YES” I said, observational opinion because of the trends and life styles “church people” have developed.

Some say, “I was saved when I was a kid, so I can sin all I want to and have no fear of going to hell.” Some think that they can abuse and defile their bodies with nicotine, drugs, booze, perverted sex and they will be accepted into Heaven. To some, church attendance is only a side line and really there is no real need of it. Many say, they pray and read their Bible every day, which a vast majority of them are lying, and that’s all they need to do to acquire Heaven’s Gates. I have a sign on the back glass of my truck which reads, “If you don’t want to go to church, why do you want to go to Heaven.” It gets a lot of attention, it has become the identifying symbol of my truck.

People have been fed and have believed all the lies written above and much more. They have become fat on the lies of un-holiness, unrighteousness, un-commitment, without sanctification and purity, feeding on ungodliness and even feeling good about themselves. As the foundation and structural makeup of the bones of an arsenic fed fat chicken will not hold up the chicken neither will the compromising life style of many people hold up in the eyes of the Lord when they stand before Him. The Word of God is the foundation of the “Church” and it is the same for all and it will never change.

The Chicken, The Gnat, The Camel:

by Pastor Dale Carter on 08/10/16

Chickens...When it comes to eating chicken someone said one time, "I like the back and the breast and all the rest."  Well I agree with them.  There's nutten better that good O fried chicken, brown and crispy on the outside and running with heart killing grease from the inside.  Put that with creamy smooth smashed potatoes with some well documented turnip greens dashed with some fine pepper sauce with a slice of butter dripping corn bread and that is money for your cardiologist.   Broiled Chicken is good but it won't kill you as fast and it won't make your doctor as much money.  So have a heart and help your doc send his kids to Harvard so they can become lawyers.  Wow!  Look at the influence a little old chicken has.  Love them.

In Matt. 23:37 and Luke 13:34, Jesus speaks of a hen that would gather her chickens and cover them with her wings.  Under her wings they are safe.  The hen was doing what she was created to do, protect, train and preserve so that the little chicks would grow up and continue doing what they were created to do. Sometimes the hen will get her feathers ruffled. Usually when another chicken irritates her. Her feathers stand up and she is ready to fight. Most of the time the irritation subsides and all is well in the chicken pen, but in the church it may be a different story. Ruffled feathers are useless.  They stand up on edge away from the body of the hen and cannot protect the hen much less the little chicks.  If the ruffled feather continues to be ruffled and remains standing on edge, it is weakened and the wind can separate it from the body.  This leaves a weakness in the covering of the body so the wind begins to affect the other feathers which are blown away from the body which can expose the body to other elements which can bring sickness and disease.

Gnats: The gnat is a very small insect that resembles a mosquito.  Some think it as a baby fly, but it is not. They usually gather in swarms and can be very irritating, causing some to strain or half close their eyes to keep gnats out of them.  When being encountered by a swarm of gnats, never open your mouth. Though easy to swallow they probably aren't very nutritional and as proverbs declares, it's easier for some folks to swallow a camel. While straining at gnats our vision is hampered and we cannot see clear enough to see the charging camels. Specking of which:

Camels:  My research produced some interesting facts about camels. Camel meat is high in protein, but with less than half the fat of beef, camel meat is often held up as a healthy alternative.  But hardly anyone eats it. Globally, it accounts for 0.13 per cent - barely one thousandth - of the meat eaten every year.  As a result of that lack of prominence on the world's dinner tables, there has been little scientific study of the meat's properties.

Now a scientist in Oman is hoping to rectify this. Prof Isam Kadim, of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, edited a volume published last year entitled Camel Meat and Meat Products.

When Satan heard of this, he had a more promising idea.  He said I have a much more flourishing place to feed camel than anywhere else.  I'll feed it to the Church, and in the last days it will become the most desired meat of all the church members, even to the point of replacing chicken, which was the number one food for preachers.  And so it has become.  We have fried and devoured the chicken, with half open eyes strained at gnats and swallowed camels.

Maybe it's time that the church went back to being like hens as Jesus described.  Even if we get our feathers ruffled by some wind, all we have to do is turn around. Ruffled feathers have caused a lot of denominations to spring up or new church buildings to be erected. Hundreds of chicks have been blown away or drowned while searching for love, peace and security because someone with ruffled feathers took control of the spirit of the church and with blind eyes caused the congregation to swallow many a camel which was good for the flesh, but God's Church is not of the flesh, but of the Spirit.

Seem any camels lately? Maybe the appetite of the church has devoured them. Let the wind of the Holy Ghost lay the feathers down. Spray the gnats with the anointing of the Holy Ghost so that the eyes of your understanding will be opened before you are ran over by camels.

Fly with Lifers and Thrusters (Joel Osteen)

by Pastor Dale Carter on 12/24/15

A pilot friend of mine told me there are four main principles to master when flying airplanes: life, thrust, weight, and drag. You have to take all these into account to make sure the plane will fly.

These same principles apply to specific types of people. There are the Lifters who brighten your day, cheer you up, and make you feel better about yourself. then there are the Thrusters who inspire you, motivate you, challenge you to move forward and pursue your dreams. The people in the third group are weights. They pull you down, dump their problems on you so the you leave feeling heavier, negative, and discouraged. Finally, there are those who are a drag. They've always got a sad song. They're stuck in a pit. They expect you to cheer them up, fix their problems, and carry their loads.

We all encounter people from each of these four groups. You have to make sure you're spending the majority of your time with Lifters and Thrusters. If you're only hanging out with weights and drags, it will keep you from becoming everything you were created to be.

Some people have perpetual problems. If you allow them, they'll use you as a trash can to dump all their garbage in. You spend an hour with them and you feel like you've run a marathon. They're energy suckers. You leave them feeling drained and worn out.

You cannot continue to deal with them day after day if you expect to reach your highest potential. You won't Lift off. You won't Thrust forward into the good things God has in store if you're weighted down, letting people dump their loads on you.

You are not responsible for their happiness. Sure, there are times when we need to sow a seed and have a listening ear and take time to love people back into wholeness. But that should be for a season and not an ongoing drama. You can't allow someone to put negativity in you day after day if you expect to soar.

My thoughts....A husband should be their wife's Lifer and Thruster and a wife should be the husbands Lifter and Thruster. As a pastor I've always tried to teach that everyone needs a cheer leader and that cheer leader should be the husband and wife. Good cheer leaders can cheer a team out of a slump and inspire them to win the game. So it is with individuals such and me and you. Be your spouse's best cheer leader and inspire others to do the same it will change your whole life and especially your home life. If you have a problem that you really want to leave behind, go talk to your pastor that's why God put him or her there.

Why Go to Church?

by Pastor Dale Carter on 12/07/15

A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."
Someone read his complaint and responded with the following: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals, but I do know this...they all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Like wise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"
When you are DOWN to nothing...God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment.
